patient care

  • Patient pulled into a room by RN or RPN and secondary assessment completed. Any additional paperwork that is needed is pulled from files

  • If any additional medical directives are initiated by the primary nurse, the chart is given to the ER clerk to process the orders

  • After initial assessment and order entry, the chart is placed in the “To Be Seen” area in order of priority by the primary nurse or CRN

Patient Care

  • If there are orders for the nurse to complete (ie. ekg, urine, med admin, etc.), the clerk will place a “Check Orders” sign on the pts clipboard so that the nurse is made aware and return the chart to its place on the chart wall

  • If there are no orders other than labs and DI, the clerk will process the orders and return the chart to its place on the chart wall

  • If all orders are completed, the nurse places the “R” sign on the clipboard to notify the ERP that the patient is ready for reassessment

  • If there is a discharge order on the chart, the clerk will place a “Discharge” sign on the clipboard so that the nurse is made aware and return the chart to its place on the chart wall

  • If there are admission orders on the chart, the clerk pulls a binder and admission package (located on black filing cabinet) with a Kardex to process the orders. The primary nurse ensures that a BPMH has been completed on the patient (pharmacy tech during their hours and RN after hours)The ER clerk also notifies AHA of the admission and faxes all orders to pharmacy

The ERP pulls the charts from the “To Be Seen” area and writes down orders. The chart is then placed at the clerks desk on the stand and the clerk completes order processing.
